Energy / Reiki Healing

Reiki is an energy healing technique that involves a Reiki master using gentle hand movements to guide the flow of healthy energy (what’s known in Reiki as “life force energy”) through the body to reduce stress and promote healing. The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a treatment that involves applying light pressure to reflex points on the feet, hands, or face. It's based on a theory that these reflexes are mapped to our bodies organs and systems. The treatment brings about a sense of deep relaxation which allows the body to access its own healing processes.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment that involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into the skin.

How does Acupuncture work?
When a needle is inserted into the body, it stimulates nerves in the skin and muscle that activates nerve pathways in the spinal cord and brain. Acupuncture can therefore be used to treat a wide range of conditions as it works by increasing the release of the body’s natural painkillers – the endorphins and serotonin.

Which conditions can be treated with Acupuncture?
There is very good scientific evidence for several medical conditions, including migraine, tension type headaches, knee osteoarthritis, lower back and neck pain. People often report feeling very relaxed after their treatment with an improved sense of wellbeing.

What to expect from a treatment?
Following an in-depth exploration into the condition and focused physical examination, the clinician would devise a treatment plan. Acupuncture treatment is generally offered at the initial assessment.
The needles are left in place for a period of 15-20 minutes.
The number of needles required will depend on the condition being treated (4-10).
Sometimes a low voltage electrical current is applied to some of the needles to assist the treatment process.

Is Acupuncture painful?
Depending on the part of the body being treated, people generally report experiencing a slight sharp sting just as the needle penetrates the skin, or when a tight band in a muscle is released, but no ongoing discomfort. Following the treatment, there might be a greater awareness of the area of the body where some needles were inserted.

How many treatments will I need and how often?
Most people require between 5-8 sessions. This will be determined by the condition being treated and the response to treatment.
This may need to be weekly initially but the interval between treatments is extended to every fortnight or monthly, depending on treatment response.

Why choose a Medical Acupuncturist?
A Medical Acupuncturist has a good understanding of your medical diagnosis, investigations and treatments, having trained in Western Medicine. They will be able to advise you on when acupuncture might be useful or if it would be best to consult your own doctor.

She will be providing Medical Acupuncture Treatments and Lu Jong Yoga at B2W.

Dr Deniah did her training in Medical Acupuncture with the British Medical Acupuncture Society and worked for 3-4 years at their clinic in Central London. She now teaches Acupuncture on their Foundation course in London and abroad.

She was inspired and intrigued by the difference Acupuncture made to her personally when her own GP was unable to offer a tangible solution during a stressful time in her GP training.

She decided to learn more about acupuncture and to make it available to patients, especially for conditions where conventional therapy is less available, effective or desirable.

She encourages people to empower themselves with a 10 minute daily Lu Jong yoga practice for health and well-being. Sessions are now available to book at B2W.
